Cliffhanger

Lagoon's new ride for the 2001 season, the Cliffhanger, is now open. Mondial of Holland built the 2 million dollar ride, known as a "splashover". The ride is the first of it's kind built within the USA.

The ride consists of 2 twenty-seat gondolas, each attached to a two pronged swinging arm on either side. The large arms can swing a full 360° in either direction. The attached gondolas can also spin 360°, or the ride operator can lock them into a fixed position. This setup allows the rider to experience countless high-speed loops.

The ride also features an interactive fountain system, which when used in conjunction with locking gondolas into a fixed position, can leave riders very wet.

The ride is 59 feet tall, 50 feet wide, and 47 feet long.

Samurai

The Samurai was built in 2000 by Mondial of Holland. The ride is located at the northern tip of the midway, where the Flying Carpet used to stand. The ride is the first of it's kind built within the USA.

The 65 foot tall ride, known as a top scan, features six 5 seat gondolas which are each attached to a motor on the end of a 45° arm. The ride is designed so that when the spinning 45° arm is holding riders at it's lowest point, the gondolas are level with the ground. However, when the arm holds the gondolas at it's highest point the gondolas are at a 90° angle.

When the powered spinning of the Arm and the 6 gondolas is combined with the free spinning of each individual gondola, one very disorienting and dizzying ride experience is produced.

The Rocket

Lagoon Amusement Park's Rocket Lagoon's 200 foot tall Rocket is one of only three rides that exceed the parks 150' height restriction. The ride was built in 1999 by S&S Power of Logan, Utah.

The Rocket is actually two rides in one, The Blast off tower (known as a space-shot) and the Re-entry tower (known as a turbo-drop).

Once you are strapped into one of 12 seats on the Blast off tower, you are slowly raised a few feet in the air to a stop. Without any warning the ride almost instantly accelerates to about 45 miles per hour straight up. You reach nearly the top of the tower within a few seconds. you bounce up and down a few times until the ride is stopped at the ground again.

The Re-entry tower's 12-seat car is ever so slowly raised to nearly the top of the tower. Once you reach the peak you are brought to a stop. After a few seconds (that seem like forever) you are forced to the ground at a higher rate than free fall. Just like the Blast off you bounce a few times and the ride is stopped.

The third tower is not in use, but may one day be upgraded to another space-shot or turbo-drop. The tower could also be used for a double-shot, which is like a combination of both the shot and drop rides. Due to technical limitations, if the tower is outfitted for a double shot, the ride would only be able to go halfway up the tower.

Centennial Screamer

The Centennial Screamer was added to Lagoon in 1987 to celebrate the parks 100th birthday. The ride, known as an enterprise, was built by the Anton Schwarzkopf Company.

The ride consists of twenty 1-3 person gondolas attached to a circular frame. After the circular frame gets spinning, the frame is lifted to 90° by a hydraulic arm. Each gondola is able to swing freely, and as a result the rider ends up in a constant state of looping.

Space Scrambler

Lagoon Amusement Park's Space Scrambler

The Space Scrambler was built in 1961. This type of ride is very common at amusement parks across the country.

The ride has 3 groups of 4 cars. The entire ride spins and each group of cars spin individually. The rides high lateral Gs, mixed with the illusion that you are about to collide with the other cars makes this ride just as fun as it was 40 years ago.

Not only is the ride as fun as when it was new, it looks just as good too thanks to it's shiny new metallic paint job.

Flying Aces

The Flying Aces were built in the late 50's. The ride features 8 "planes" suspended from the rides frame by cables. Each "plane" has a rudder that you can adjust in order to control your height.

Wild Kingdom Train

Lagoon Amusement Park's Train Ride The Wild Kingdom Train was installed sometime after 1970. The steam locomotives were built by Crown Metal Products.

The train travels a circular course around the "lagoon" (not the whole park, but the body of water it was named for). The train goes past the tidal wave, through a cinderblock tunnel and around the water passing numerous caged and free-roaming animals on it's way. After the animals, the train goes behind the rock-o-plane and roll-o-plane, and returns to the station.

The Tidal Wave and Turn of the Century rides are located in an area that you must cross the train tracks to reach. Each time a train passes, crossing gates are closed and you need to wait for the train to clear before you can go to/from those rides.
